Welcome! I am Tracy Powers, the Dacula Middle School Visual Art teacher. This website has been created to help parents and students understand what is going on in the Visual Art classes at DMS. You will find an explanation of the project that each grade level is working on as well as photographs of student artwork. On each grade level page the vocabulary that is being covered will also be listed. I have also included an Artist Gallery page and Web Links page that anyone can use as a reference tool. The Importance of Art in Education

The education of students can benefit from the integration of visual arts. Visual arts help students to have a sense of emotional well-being and emotional intelligence. These learners also gain a sense of self confidence and self awareness. Visual arts use multiple parts of the brain, therefore, allowing stimulation to areas of the brain that pertain to all all academic subject s taught in school. For these advances to be experienced one must have a lesson for the students to gain from. I prefer lessons that integrate with the students academic classes. This helps the students to relate the different subject matter across the curriculum.
